Encircled by centuries-old redwoods, Bergman Estate is a Napa Valley classic. Joseph Phelps bottled fruit from this property as a vineyard designate as early as the 1970s. David Abreu, who replanted the historic hillside site in 2013, continues to oversee it, while Nigel Kinsman oversees the small-lot winemaking. Proprietor Pam Bergman is involved in every aspect of the operation, from organic gardening to beekeeping to winemaking. The family members wished to launch their brand with an understated website that reflected the care and time that have gone into developing the remarkable vineyard, caves, and wines.

The Challenge
Because the family wished to take a “less is more” approach to telling their story, we looked for ways to visually—rather than verbally—impart a sense of the assiduous, meticulous work that had gone into the vineyard and winemaking project. Working in collaboration with Alex and Anne-Lise Yandell of Yandell Consulting in Bordeaux, we arrived at a website design that is muted but luxuriant, reflecting the proprietors’ unerring sense of style.
- Demonstrate the painstaking effort that has gone into farming the vineyard and estate.
- Establish a restrained aesthetic of subtle sophistication.
- Communicate the caliber of the team, the site, and the caves.
- Inspire allocation list signups by piquing curiosity.
- Share the family’s regard for nature.
